Carolina Panthers No team in Charlotte has contributed more to the city's sports identity than the NFL's Carolina Panthers. Celebrating their 25th anniversary in 2018, the "Cats"—led by all-star quarterback Cam Newton—keep the city's enthusiasm for athletics pounding. With Instagram-worthy panther statues at its entryway, Bank of America Stadium's giant arches and towers are hewn in the team's colors: black, silver and blue. e Carolina Panthers just spent $75 million on its stadium upgrades, including four sleek terraces, a cra beer area, LED lighting and high-defi nition televisions. Charlotte Knights e Charlotte Knights, now a triple-A Chicago White Sox affi liate, fi rst took the fi eld in 1901, when the team was founded as the Charlotte Hornets. Over the next century, many transitions changed the baseball team's name, city, league and stadium.
